Ministry of Health and WHO Sign Agreement for New Juba Headquarters

Juba | February 25th, 2026 — In a landmark move for the nation’s medical landscape, the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) have officially signed a significant agreement for the construction of a new WHO country office in Juba.

This partnership marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to bolster South Sudan’s health system and provides a permanent foundation for international health collaboration within the country.

The signing ceremony was presided over by the Honourable Minister Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health for the Republic of South Sudan. She was joined by Dr. Humphrey Karamagi, the WHO Country Representative, along with senior officials from the Ministries of Housing, Justice and Constitutional Affairs, and various health development partners.

The agreement formalizes the allocation of land for the headquarters, ensuring that the WHO has a dedicated space to coordinate its vital operations across the region.

During the ceremony (which, despite a minor typo in the initial notes calling it a "singing" ceremony, was definitely a formal signing event!), Minister Sarah Cleto Rial emphasized that the new facility is more than just a building—it is a pillar of progress.

"This new office represents our steadfast dedication to advancing healthcare delivery throughout South Sudan. I extend my gratitude to the World Health Organization for its consistent support in paving the way for a healthier future," stated Honourable Sarah Cleto Rial.

Dr. Humphrey Karamagi echoed these sentiments, expressing his appreciation for the government’s dedication to making this project a reality. He noted that a centralized, modern headquarters will:

  • Streamline operations for faster emergency response.
  • Enhance coordination between the WHO and the Ministry of Health.
  • Contribute directly to the long-term well-being of the South Sudanese people.

The establishment of this office is a testament to the "unwavering commitment" of the WHO to South Sudan. By strengthening the nation's health infrastructure, the Ministry of Health continues to prioritize the delivery of high-quality medical services to every citizen.

This development is expected to catalyze further investments in the health sector, ensuring that South Sudan is better equipped to handle both current health challenges and future medical advancements.
