In a strong response to a cholera outbreak that struck Bentiu in December 2024, the Ministry of Health has launched an essential vaccination campaign in Unity State. Today, the National Minister of Health, Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach, was joined by H.E. Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, Vice President for Services Cluster, as they took significant steps to address the escalating situation and underscore the critical role of vaccination in halting the spread of this dangerous disease.
During her address, the Honourable Minister called on the community to heed health advice regarding safe water and sanitation practices. She expressed deep appreciation for the tireless efforts of healthcare workers on the frontlines, acknowledging their commitment to protecting public health. The Minister highlighted the urgent need for enhanced healthcare resources and fostered partnerships, stating that the crisis has grown beyond a mere outbreak.

He stressed the necessity of improving access to clean water, sanitation, and overall healthcare services while cautioning against unsafe homemade remedies.
Collaboration with organisations like WHO, UNICEF, MSF, and others is pivotal to the response efforts, which include deploying rapid response teams, establishing cholera treatment centres, and promoting essential hygiene practices. In a powerful call to action, the Vice President urged increased funding and support for long-term solutions and community-led initiatives. He assured the public of the government's unwavering commitment to tackling the outbreak and strengthening a resilient health system for the future.
