In a significant meeting aimed at addressing urgent health issues, the National Minister of Health, Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach, met with Warrap State Governor H.E. Francis Marial Abur to discuss the critical health challenges currently confronting the State.
Following their discussions, Hon. Yolanda highlighted the severe ramifications of recent flooding, which has led to increased mortality from snake bites and waterborne diseases, as well as shortages of medical supplies and the displacement of healthcare personnel.
“As many are aware, this year has seen Warrap State profoundly affected by floods, resulting in dire consequences. Tragically, numerous lives have been lost due to snake bites and waterborne illnesses,” stated Hon. Yolanda. She emphasized the collective responsibility to support the affected communities and to address the ongoing health challenges.
Governor Marial Abur provided an overview of the current governance landscape and the specific challenges faced by the health sector. He also detailed relief efforts for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and the limited resources available for legal assistance in the region.
“I had a productive meeting with the Honourable Minister, who received me warmly. I outlined the numerous challenges plaguing the health sector in my state. She acknowledged the impact of the floods and the associated health crises. Our discussion was constructive, and she expressed her commitment to providing assistance in various capacities,” remarked H.E. Marial Abur.
The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude for the governor's ongoing efforts and a reaffirmation of the importance of collaboration between the state and the National Ministry of Health in addressing these pressing health challenges.
