Minister of Health meets with a visiting delegation from The Global Fund

Juba, South Sudan - June 14th , 2024 - Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach Meets with Global Fund Delegation
The Ministry of Health and National Malaria Control Program led by Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach held a meeting with a visiting delegation from the Global Fund headquarters led by Dr. Harley Feldbaum, Global Fund Director for Strategy and Policy Hub.
The meeting held at the ministry’s headquarters discussed the Global Fund’s efforts to combat three diseases in South Sudan; HIV/AIDs, TB, and Malaria.
“We have talked about a lot of the progress made to date, particularly against Malaria, HIV, and TB, and some of the integration with health systems that's critical to support the people and the health in South Sudan” Harley Feldbaum said.
He added that the country has made significant progress in healthcare, particularly against HIV, TB, and Malaria, and stresses the importance of integration with the health system and he acknowledged the rising challenges such as floods, climate change, and refugee flows.
Dr. Feldbaum underscored the need for domestic financing and donor coordination to deliver results.
“As the Ministry of Health, we need transparency and harmonization among donors and partners to achieve a coordinated approach to service delivery in South Sudan’s health sector,” Hon. Yolanda Awel said in her remarks.
While speaking about the alignment among donors and partners in the health sector through a strategic plan framework; Hon. Yolanda Awel reiterated the importance of effective partnership and collaboration to address the health challenges in South Sudan.
Hon. Awel Deng Juach expressed her gratitude towards the Global Fund and its partners including GAVI for providing health commodities and vaccines to the country. She appreciates the Global Fund and donors for supporting HIV, TB, and Malaria in South Sudan.
Overall, the visiting team appreciated South Sudan’s efforts in ensuring a 70% absorption rate of the Global Fund grants, and the teamwork in responding to the fight against HIV, TB, and Malaria.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Malek Deng, Director General for International Health Coordination, the management of the National Malaria Control Program led by Dr. Joseph Panyuan Puok, a representative from the Global Fund including; Dr. Boniface Njenga, the Senior Portfolio Manager for South Sudan Portfolio in the Global Fund (Outgoing).
