Ministry of Health and UNFPA Collaborate on 2025 Annual Work Plan for Reproductive Health Activities

Juba, 18 February 2025 —The National Ministry of Health has officially signed its annual work plan for 2025 in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). This plan emphasises the implementation of essential reproductive health activities, primarily focusing on several key areas. These include promoting family planning initiatives to support safe motherhood and reduce maternal mortality rates nationwide, integrating services to address gender-based violence into primary healthcare systems, and enhancing the capacity of 10 Health Science Institutes alongside the South Sudan College of Physicians and Surgeons.

The total financial commitment for this work plan is valued at $490,000, which is intended to strengthen the Ministry's leadership and oversight in health matters.

In a statement to the media, Hon. Dr. Harriet Akello Pasquale, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, clarified that this signed document represents an annual work plan specifically for 2025 and is not a long-term contract."While the Ministry of Health maintains a long-term agreement with UNFPA, this document serves as a focused implementation plan for the current year," Dr. Harriet emphasised.

Additionally, UNFPA's representative in South Sudan, Ms. Suzanne Mandong, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Health and the government for their dedication to the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) agenda and reaffirmed UNFPA’s commitment to support the execution of the outlined work plan.

The signing of this plan underscores the shared responsibility to ensure the successful implementation of the 2025 annual work plan and the broader goals of the ICPD agenda.
