Sydney, Australia - June 2024 - Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach Delivers Powerful Speech at Global Health Security Conference in Sydney!
The Global Health Security Conference 2024, held between 16-18 June 2024 in Sydney, Australia, brought together experts from around the world to discuss and address the challenges facing global health security. At this year's conference, Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach, the Minister of Health Republic of South Sudan, delivered a powerful keynote address.
In her speech, Hon. Yolanda emphasized the crucial importance of epidemic preparedness around the globe. She acknowledged that outbreaks are an inherent risk in today's interconnected world, as new diseases emerge and old ones resurface. However, Juach stressed that the real problem lies not in the presence of outbreaks, but in the lack of preparedness and prompt action, which can lead to devastating consequences in low-income countries.
Hon. Yolanda emphasized that adequate resources and collaboration among countries are essential in preventing the spread of epidemics. She also highlighted the critical role of political determination in addressing global health security threats, warning that without strong political commitment, the consequences can be dire.
"No country is completely prepared, and diseases do not recognize borders," Hon. Yolanda said in her closing statement. "An outbreak in one country can impact the entire world." Her words served as a call to action for governments, healthcare professionals, and individuals to work together towards preventing epidemics and ensuring global health security.
The Global Health Security Conference aims to provide a platform for experts from various fields to share knowledge, best practices, and experiences in preventing and responding to epidemics. This year's event in Sydney was no exception, as it brought together a diverse array of stakeholders to discuss the pressing issues facing global health security.
Hon. Yolanda’s speech at the conference underscored the urgency of the situation and the need for collective action to address global health security threats, particularly in the wake of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. As the world continues to grapple with the consequences of disease outbreaks, her message emphasizes the crucial role of preparedness, collaboration, and political determination in safeguarding the health and well-being of people worldwide.
