The Minister of Health for the Republic of South Sudan, Honorable Sarah Cleto Rial, has travelled to Belém, Brazil, to participate in the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30), which is taking place from 11-14 November 2025.

 

Minister Sarah Cleto Rial's attendance underscores the critical position of the Ministry of Health to ensure that the growing impacts of the climate crisis are recognized and addressed as a profound public health emergency for South Sudan and the world.

 

Building on the significant momentum established at COP28, which featured the first-ever Health Day, the health agenda is expected to be substantially elevated at COP30. Minister Rial's participation is vital to the national effort to:

• Elevate Health: Ensure health is a central pillar in all negotiated global climate agreements.
• Strengthen Adaptation: Advocate for the inclusion of strong, resilient public health systems within climate adaptation strategies.

 

The presence of health ministers from climate-vulnerable nations like South Sudan is crucial to ensure that the needs of the most affected communities are at the forefront of international climate action and financing.
