Urgent Need for Voluntary Blood Donation Highlighted by Health Minister in Juba

JUBA | 01 August 2025 — Urgent Need for Voluntary Blood Donation Highlighted by Health Minister in Juba

Health Minister Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial today undertook an important visit to the National Blood Transfusion Service and the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre to inspect their operations as well as emphasize the dire need for voluntary blood donation in South Sudan. Accompanying her was the Undersecretary of the National Ministry of Health, Hon. Dr. Aninn Ngot Ngot Mou.

 

Call to Non-Remunerated Blood Donations

 

This visit forms part of the activities of the Ministry of Health towards increasing non-remunerated voluntary blood donation currently taking place countrywide. Hon. Minister Sarah Cleto also had direct engagement with other respective staff to draw a comprehensive understanding of what essential services are being rendered by the National Blood Bank, which is vital for a safe and reliable blood supply for the nation.

 

Strengthening Lab Standards and Emergency Response

 

During the tour, Minister Sarah Cleto witnessed firsthand the advanced capacities of the laboratories and how they are strategically coordinated with the Blood Bank and the Emergency Operations Centre. She also emphasized the need to maintain strict testing standards for all laboratory services, especially those involving blood safety.

 

The Minister also reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to ensuring that all testing protocols conform to the standards of international best practices in order to enhance patient care and improve overall public health outcomes.

 

Appreciation for Healthcare Workers

 

Hon. Minister Sarah Cleto subsequently concluded her visit with congratulatory applause to all healthcare workers for their dedication and effort in the public health sector. She noted how important these health workers are in serving the country while working tirelessly to respond to challenges posed by public health.

 

The Ministry of Health continues to encourage all citizens to become regular, voluntary blood donors for saving life and supporting the health of our communities.
