In a strong move to combat the cholera outbreak affecting several states across South Sudan, the Ministry of Health has officially launched an Oral Cholera Vaccine Campaign in Kapoeta South County, Eastern Equatoria State. This vital initiative is a collaborative effort led by Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, Minister of Health, alongside Hon. Josephine Napwon, National Minister of Environment and Forestry, and the Chairperson of the Health and Population Committee in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly. A significant delegation accompanied them to mark the campaign's commencement.

 

During the launch, Hon. Sarah Cleto urged the residents of Kapoeta South to take proactive steps in the fight against cholera, emphasizing the critical importance of hygiene and cleanliness. While acknowledging a decrease in reported cholera cases within the county, she stressed that continued vigilance and community engagement are crucial to prevent any resurgence. "We must work together to ensure that our families and communities are safe from cholera," Hon. Cleto stated, reinforcing the necessity of proper sanitation practices.

 

Beyond the vaccination efforts, the Minister also committed to addressing existing challenges in health service delivery in Kapoeta South. She recognized the difficulties faced by healthcare providers and the community and pledged to strengthen the health infrastructure to better serve the population.

 

H.E. Louis Lobong Lojore, the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State, also appealed to citizens to support the government's efforts in combating cholera. He highlighted the essential role of community leaders in advocating for health prevention measures and fostering a collaborative approach among residents to eliminate cholera within the state. "Together, we can make a significant difference in our health outcomes," he urged, inspiring a unified front in this public health battle.

 

As this crucial campaign unfolds, officials are emphasizing the importance of public participation and awareness in safeguarding the community's health and preventing further outbreaks.
