Essential Health Care Support from The American People To South Sudan

The United States (U.S.) Ambassador Michael Adler and his accompanying delegation visited the National Ministry of Health today to emphasize the critical role of USAID in supporting health centers across South Sudan. During the meeting, Ambassador Adler highlighted that the transitional government should aim to increase public revenue to strengthen health facilities, ensuring salaries are paid and reducing risks for those dedicated to serving the South Sudanese population.

 

Minister of Health Hon. Yolanda Awel Deng Juach addressed the media, discussing ongoing reforms in funding collaborations with partners, including USAID, who have significantly contributed to the health sector. She emphasized that the services provided are intended not only for civilians but for the benefit of all citizens in the country.

 

Minister Awel also stressed the importance of outreach services to health centers nationwide, acknowledging the challenges faced within the ministry, including difficult working conditions for some staff members.

 

In her closing remarks, Hon. Yolanda Awel committed to collaborating closely with the South Sudanese government, partners, and donors, including USAID, to ensure the health sector is adequately supported and that the welfare of health workers is prioritized
