Juba, August 4, 2025 — Ministry of Health Hosts IGAD Team to Discuss Health Financing

The Ministry of Health, led by National Minister of Health Hon. Sarah Cleto Rial, today welcomed a delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to discuss major strategies in health financing and healthcare system strengthening. The IGAD team was led by Dr. Mohamed Elduma, Head of Health, and provided by senior members of the A2DSRH Programme.

 

The meeting held inside the Ministry of Health premise was held in support of strengthening healthcare across the IGAD region. The IGAD team gave the Minister Sarah Cleto a brief update on their current health initiatives and programs including the A2DSRH Programme.

 

The Minister reiterated a commitment from the Government to prioritize the health sector. She urged IGAD to focus their attention on the most concrete outcomes leading to more resilient and sustainable health care systems and service delivery for the people of South Sudan.

 

Dr. Mohamed Elduma also highlight IGAD's commitment to reinforce the regional health systems. He stressed the importance of political support, national ownership, and multi-sectoral collaboration in ramping up domestic funding for health, which is recommended so as to achieve WHO Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goal.

 

This fruitful discussion has reflected the ongoing partnership of the Ministry of Health and IGAD, working together to build a healthier future for the region.
